God Zigs When I Zag

Pretty catchy title huh?  Does it feel like just when you think you have God figured out he “zags” when you think he is going to “zig” and your confidence in knowing him goes back to square one?  Maybe it is just me but why doesn’t God act like I want him to act?  Just when I have him doing what I want him to do he goes in a different direction.  I think the core of my frustration is that just when I think I know him, he becomes more of a mystery to me.  The scariest people are those who think they can manipulate God by “saying the right things” or by “praying what they want in Jesus name.”  Thinking that they can use the name of Jesus just like they do a credit card.  I read in the book, The Shack (a must read) this line…”we don’t want to put God in a box, just in a book.”  The Bible does not talk to all the specifics of life, it covers some big things so don’t get me wrong but it also leaves a lot of mystery about how God operates.  After reading the Bible, teaching God’s word in church and living it out daily I know a few basic things.  God is love and everything he does is in love.  “Free will” messes with our mind because God allows us to make choices either good or bad choices.  God is a mystery because our minds can not grasp his bigger plans.  So my advice to you today is to taste and see that the Lord is good.  That is probably all we need to know at this point.
